CRC 1160 members Olaf Groß and Marta Rizzi receive Eucor Seed Money

Mar 06, 2024

Every year, Eucor – The European Campus funds several joint projects involving at least two of its five member universities. In the Seed Money call for 2024, two cross-border projects co-led by CRC1160 members Prof. Dr. Olaf Groß (C02) and Prof. Dr. Marta Rizzi (B02) were selected. Both are joint projects together with researchers from Strasbourg, strengthening the international ties between the Universities of Strasbourg/France and Freiburg/Germany.

The two projects are among the eight to receive funding in the 7th Eucor Seed Money call. They were selected by the Assembly of the University Alliance on the basis of  recommendations by experts from the member universities. The universities provide an annual budget of €300.000 to support the networking of scientists.

Molecular biologist Groß will join forces with medical scientist Prof. Dr. Roméo Ricci from Strasbourg to investigate the molecular mechanisms that lead to the activation of the NLRP3, an important control point of the innate immune system.
Immunologist Rizzi, together with pharmacologist Dr. Vincent Gies from Strasbourg, will study the role of B-cells in the development of autoimmune diseases.
