Apr 08, 2025

Prof. Dr. Dr. Melanie Börries, principal investigator in the CRC 1160 (Z02), has been awarded the Deutschen Krebspreis 2025 in the category “Translational Research.” This prestigious recognition highlights her groundbreaking work in the field of personalized cancer therapy.

The Deutscher Krebspreis, endowed with €7,500, one of the most significant awards in oncology within German-speaking countries, is presented annually by the German Cancer Society and the German Cancer Foundation. Prof. Börries is among the four laureates of 2025.

At the heart of Melanie Börries’ research lies the question: Which therapy works for which patient and why? Using artificial intelligence and advanced biotechnologies, she analyzes the molecular characteristics of tumors to make individualized predictions about therapeutic responses and survival chances. Her research has already contributed to novel therapeutic approaches, such as tackling graft-versus-host disease following stem cell transplantation.

Award statement: “I am very pleased about the German Cancer Award. This recognition honors not only my work but also that of many colleagues with whom I work daily to shape the future of cancer therapy,” said Börries.
