At the beginning of January 2020, Bertram Bengsch (A03N) took up the professorship for translational hepatogastroenterology at the Clinic for Internal Medicine II at the Medical Center –University of Freiburg. Bengsch heads the newly created section for translational system immunology in hepatogastroenterology. His research aims to understand the complex immune response in chronic viral, autoimmune, and tumor diseases in order to improve therapies for those affected.
