Prof. Dr. Marco Prinz (C03) receives the Novo Nordisk Prize 2021, endowed with 672,000 euros. The award goes to his research on the immune system of the brain, the so-called microglia. In his research, Prinz showed that these cells play an important role both in normal brain function and in connection with diseases such as multiple sclerosis or Alzheimer’s disease. His research can enable improved, early diagnosis and new therapeutic approaches.
